Working on this life-size piece reinforced a vital lesson: the primacy of big shapes and silhouettes over fine detail. I found myself constantly retreating to the corners of the room just to see the forms flow, shadow shapes under spot light. I had to strip away the detailing phase three times; if the underlying proportions aren't working, no amount of surface work can save them.
