When sculpting traditionally, I often exaggerate certain forms to account for how they interact with light and shadow. In bright or outdoor ambient light, subtle details can wash out, making surfaces appear flat and unappealing from a distance. By deepening the eye sockets and intensifying the planes of the eyelids, I ensure a life-size sculpture 'reads' with more clarity than a strictly anatomical portrait would. These intentional contrasts create a stronger focal point and help the features remain natural and defined under various lighting conditions.
